What is Double Glazing?

Double glazing means two panes of glass joined together with a spacer, the void between the two panes is filled with an inert gas, usually Argon. Double glazing comes in various thicknesses starting with 'slimline' with a depth of 12mm through to different levels up to 24mm depth.

Will I be Allowed to Install Double Glazed Windows?

In most normal cases you are able to to install new double glazed windows if you either own the property or have permission from the owner. However, if you live in a Conservation Area you will need to check with your Local Council as some will require you to submit a Planning Application.

If you are need assistance please feel free to either call us on 0203 583 3525 or email us on info@crafted.london and we would be happy to advise, free of charge.

Can Double Glazing be Fitted into my Existing Windows?

This depends on the depth of the frame and as the new double glazed units will be heavier than the existing single glazed windows you would also need to change the weights. Normally, it is worth exploring the option of brand new double glazed sash windows which tend not to be far off the price of altering your existing windows and would come with a 10 Year Guarantee if you decide to go for new windows.

Are Double Glazed Windows Energy Efficient?

Double glazing is far more energy efficient than single glazing but the overall energy efficiency of your home is dependent on quite a number of other key factors such as wall and loft insulation, the heating / hot water system you use and the roofing material.

However, windows and glazing are an important area for thermal loss and therefore a key factor in helping to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Installing Double Glazed Sash Windows will help you save money on your heating and energy bills.

What are the Key Benefits of Double Glazed Sash Windows?

Reduction in Energy Usage - All our sash windows come with draft seals which reduce heat loss and new double glazed sash windows are far more energy efficient than single glazed units.

Reduction in Noise Pollution - Double glazed windows significantly reduce unwanted noise coming in from the outside world and entering your home.

Increased Security - Double glazing is far tougher and harder to break than traditional single glazed sash windows and in addition our windows come with internal sash lock and you can also choose from a selection of sash restrictors than can be adjusted so the window can open a certain amount to prevent access being gained from the outside if the windows are left open.

As a guide a standard double glazed sash window is likely to cost between £850 ex VAT and £2,000 ex VAT, including installation and finishing.
